Unlike previous videos that our heroine Sammi Myers has recorded, this one is not of her face. In fact, the cell phone quality video --probably better than her webcam-- happens to be watching a shape in the blueness of the cloudless sky The dark figure turns out --after some focusing-- to be that of some larger predatory bird. Sammi’s voice can be heard in the background.
“It's hard to make out from down here what kind of bird that is but it's obvious it totesily is not a seagull or sparrow. It's a falcon or eagle. Maybe even an owl but based on it being the middle of the day I don't really think so. But it did give me a good tie into what I want to talk about.”
She clears her throat as she turns the camera around, making a very quick and dizzying shot for the viewers. Her smiling face and shoulders is seen finally, a pair of headphones around her neck and what looks to be the straps of a bright pink sports bra. Behind her, it looks to be the grey jagged rocks of a higher terrain hiking trail.
“Birds are naturally gifted with the ability to fly. From the day that Mama bird pushes them from the nest, they learn to flap their wings or they die. And once they do it, they are superior to the creatures stuck on the ground watching in awe and envy. Now I watched my opponents videos. Adian and Bryce are like those creatures on the ground watching this young eagle spread her wings for the first time. Maybe they were hoping that the baby bird would fall so it would be an easy meal but when I won my debut match, I showed my strength.”
She looks away for a second, then looks back and shakes her head.
“Honestly Bryce, I am not all that concerned about whether you agree with my style or not and I’m not as dumb as you seem to think. Naming off my moves? That was totes a stall tactic. You want to play up on my guilt regarding children copying my moves at home? Statistically, any moves we do, whether it's from a top rope or on the ground carries the risk of injury. Would you tell a pro baseball player not to throw a ball because a kid at home may emulate it and break a neighbor's window? Or tell a hockey player not to skate because of the risk of getting cut by his skates? I believe the show carries a warning label as well, it is a parent's job to monitor their children's actions and teach them about safety, not mine. If my brand of wrestling was not acceptable then it would not be accepted.”
She shakes her head and then smiles brightly.
“I know that people with no agility such as yourself Bryce scare you. You can totes deny it, but why spend your entire promo trying to talk about how horrible having wings are then? You probably have some fear of heights. And you know that's totes okay. We are all different but don't try the devil's advocate game with me, You should meet my gram. She's a master advocator!”
“And Aiden, I haven't forgotten about you either. Unlike Bryce, I won't completely forget you are in this match and not mention you hardly at all. I know that I have the biggest challenge of my career yet. Facing two talented fighters is going to be hard, I won't lie about that. But you of all people know about recognizing where you are strong and using that to your advantage. I AM an excellent gymnast. I have been doing it since I was Seven, much to my Gram’s protesting. I have learned how to take a fall and not to toot my own horn, but I am far agiler than both of you. So why not use that? I have always wanted to fly, this is as close as I’m gonna get, frankly.”
She turns the camera back to the eagle, not perched on the cliff ledge. Sammi's voice lowers.
“Don't envy the eagle, Don't strive to clip her wings. Simply enjoy her ability to soar.”
As if on cue, the bird takes flight again, knocking some nearby rocks and causing them to plummet. The camera follows the bird though until it is only a dark speck.
