FADE IN:
INT. DR. FELSTEIN’S OFFICE – SAN DIEGO, CA – MONDAY, OCTOBER 17, 2016 – MORNING.
The metronomic ticking of a wall clock echoes through the lavishly decorated office; the only sound currently breaking the awkward silence.
NATE HARRINGTON sits on a brown leather sofa, staring blankly across the room towards DR. JOHN FELSTEIN, 55, balding, grey horseshoe hairstyle, white shirt, blue tie and navy slacks.
The psychiatrist rests a notepad atop the thigh of his crossed leg, eyeballing his patient.
Pause.
The fighter terminates the statement with a disgruntled, heaving sigh.
Beat.
Harrington shakes his head slowly, in a drawn-out manner, while looking off reflectively.
The psychiatrist nods.
Nate just stares at the older man. That’s all the acknowledgement he’s prepared to offer.
Beat.
The fighter scratches his chin and shakes his head, dismissively.
Beat.
Pause.
END.

DR. FELSTEIN
And how about Shayna? The baby?
How are things going there?
NATE HARRINGTON
(Shrugging, monotone)
Fine.
And how about Shayna? The baby?
How are things going there?
NATE HARRINGTON
(Shrugging, monotone)
Fine.
Pause.
DR. FELSTEIN
Well… That’s good. How are you
feeling about your impending
fatherhood?
NATE HARRINGTON
(Scratching the back of his neck)
Good.

NATE HARRINGTON

Good.
The fighter terminates the statement with a disgruntled, heaving sigh.
DR. FELSTEIN
Okay… Good.
Okay… Good.
Beat.
DR. FELSTEIN (Cont’d)
Listen, Nate – this is your time
we’re on. Let’s not waste it.
There must be something you want
to discuss?

to discuss?
Harrington shakes his head slowly, in a drawn-out manner, while looking off reflectively.
NATE HARRINGTON
No, not really, Doc.
DR. FELSTEIN
Nothing at all? What about your
temper? Have you been quick to
anger recently?
NATE HARRINGTON
Nope. Nothing to be angry over.
No, not really, Doc.
DR. FELSTEIN

DR. FELSTEIN
Ah, good. You’ve been reading the
papers I gave you from the last
session then?

Nate just stares at the older man. That’s all the acknowledgement he’s prepared to offer.
DR. FELSTEIN (Cont’d)
So… No bouts of anger? Has there
been any progress in your professional
life since our last meeting?
NATE HARRINGTON
(Nodding)
Yeah, they agreed to the terms I
laid out. I’m fighting this Thursday.
DR. FELSTEIN
Wonderful! How have your
preparations gone?
NATE HARRINGTON
Great. I’m in the best condition
of my life. I’m hitting harder than
I’ve ever hit; I’m as strong as I’ve ever
been; my technique is as solid as
fuck; my submission game is still as
sharp as ever – everything
is where it needs to be to get
back into the ring and get the
job done.
DR. FELSTEIN
Sounds promising. What about your
opponent? Have they gone public
yet with any comments?
NATE HARRINGTON
Scaufield? Yeah, he’s ran his
cock-sucker a couple of times.

DR. FELSTEIN
And?
NATE HARRINGTON
And what?
DR. FELSTEIN
Well, what did he say?
NATE HARRINGTON
Nothing at all.
DR. FELSTEIN
Nothing?
NATE HARRINGTON
Nothing, Doc. He made a few dick
jokes; he cried about me burying
him for telling him every single
fucking reason why he can’t beat
me; he’s talked a lot about his
own fucking inadequacies and he
talked about how he’s gonna make
me angry.
DR. FELSTEIN
And has he made you angry?
NATE HARRINGTON
Dick?! No fucking way. Things that
matter make me angry. Dick Scaufield
doesn’t fucking matter.
DR. FELSTEIN
He doesn’t?
NATE HARRINGTON
No. He doesn’t.
DR. FELSTEIN
And why is that?
NATE HARRINGTON
He’s green. He’s a rookie.
He’s told the world exactly
why he can’t win this fight.
Whether he’s admitting that
he’s no wrestling guru; conceding
the fucking fact that this
fight is a mismatch of epic
proportions; or relying on
a flawed game plan; everything
he’s said just screams to me
that he’s already mentally beaten.
And?
NATE HARRINGTON
And what?
DR. FELSTEIN
Well, what did he say?
NATE HARRINGTON
Nothing at all.

NATE HARRINGTON (Cont’d)
I haven’t even had to talk
him into defeat – he’s done
it himself.
DR. FELSTEIN
You mentioned him having a
flawed game plan? How so?
NATE HARRINGTON
He thinks that he’ll keep his
fucking composure until I make
a mistake. That’s his big idea.
A rookie like him doesn’t know
the first thing about composure
– not when he’s standing across
from a fucking animal. I’ll show
him what superior composure is
all about.

DR. FELSTEIN
Nate, is it at all possible that
you’re overlooking this man?
NATE HARRINGTON
I’ll answer that question this
Thursday when the bell rings.
If he thinks I’m overlooking him;
if anyone thinks I’m overlooking
him; just wait until you see what
I fucking do to him. I’m gonna rock
his fucking dome like a speed bag.
DR. FELSTEIN
A speed bag?
NATE HARRINGTON
Yeah. A nice little fucking
stress reliever.

(Awkwardly)
Alright… So… What else is going on?
