The scene sweeps across the gym of William Bekowski. The main lights are off leaving just the overhead lights to dimly light the facility. The camera sweeps to the wrestling ring in the center of the room. The ring is surrounded by a cage with Wilfred Albright on the outside and Bryce sitting on a chair on the inside; his head low and cloaked by shadows. "Son, you need to get a feel for this cage. There is no where to run."
"Who's going to run?" Bryce's cold, emotionless voice rings.
"We've run for a few weeks now. Everyone thinks you are afraid of Zero. We've attacked him from behind to start this war-"
"A necessary, well-planned strategic move."
"We ran when he saved Grand Larson-"
"When he became what it was that he hated. A man who can only get a job done by attacking someone from behind."
"We ran when the bell rang, Zero was the number one contender, and attacked you again-"
"A man who's cowardice has finally shown."
"We ran when he hit you with Year Zero last week-"
"Screwing Issak Otto out of yet another victory." His voice becomes more aggressive. "Everything he has done was emotional, and reckless. He cared and has never cared about anyone save himself." His head raises enough to uncover his bright green eyes from the shadows. "Every move I have made, father, was cold and calculated. I have told the world that Zero is no hero. He is not the person these people should be cheering for; he is a bad example of morals and societal standards. He doesn't want an eye for an eye; he wants more... and more..." His voice growing in aggression. "And more. He wants the world to know that clearly he has the bigger dick because he is able to take one small attack and milk it for two month. Two unprovoked attacks and one cage match. He can justify his attack on me at the last Vendetta, even if it did screw his team."
"But Zero needs his revenge against you!"
"What revenge is that?" He reaches under the chair and pulls the mask that was previously hidden by the shadows. "This mask that he could have taken back time and time again? No, he doesn't want this mask; it is simply a means to an end. He wants the Absolute Championship to settle his own selfish desires. These desires I saw in him a long time ago."
"Why did you attack him? Why start this war?"
"I started all of this to curb the infection, the poison that is Zero. Everyone ignores his transgressions and paints me as the bad guy because I started this, but what about Zero?" Bryce stands up. "He left his manager, someone he is supposed to give a darn about, all alone to face me. He let me manhandle Grand Larson. He failed to show up to his match which forced Larson to step in the ring. He let that happen." Bryce pauses and smiles. "But he didn't want a match with me. He wanted a title match against me to satisfy his own desires. So he left his manager to fend for himself. He wanted to satisfy his own desires so much that he viciously thrust a man that is supposed to be his partner into thumbtacks when his partner was perfectly willing to leave the hardcore rules behind him. He would let his own faction burn to get what he wants."
"How is Zero any different than you?" Wilfred jeers.
"BECAUSE I DON'T ABANDON MY FAMILY!" Bryce finally snaps. "Do you get it now Issak? You want to believe that I am lying and I get that. I wouldn't want to think poorly of my family either. I wouldn't want to admit that the man that you are supposed to trust doesn't care about you. When he could have won you and he the match he let his emotions get the better of him and attacked me. He turned his back on you, and he broke your trust when he let his emotions get the better of him. Yet, you will still probably jeer me like my father has today. He has spewed out all of the garbage we hear week in and week out."
"Bryce, this is about Zero and the Grand Larson Group getting revenge. Stay on topic"
"For what?" He turns to his father. "I keep hearing that over and over again. What revenge needs to take place? Is it for everything Arianny and I have done to Grand Larson? Clearly not because you could have given Arianny her second loss in as many weeks, but you just couldn't do it. So it's not for that. What revenge is necessary that it warrants all of the attacks, all of the slander, all of the cutting down? I genuinely don't get it."
Wilfred smiles and climbs up the cage enough to look in Bryce's eyes. "Because son, they don't know what they are fighting for anymore. They want your gold, yes, but they are making up the rest as they go along. They are making themselves famous, because they know that after Lord Blake, you are the next best champion. You are the one here week in and week out. They know that you have built yourself up as one of the best competitors, one of the most talked about people in the locker room. They want a piece of that. They want you to elevate them just like you did to yourself."
"Zero wants to climb through the ranks of RSW." Bryce takes a step onto the ropes. "He wants me to elevate him to make him relevant in this company." He takes another step up. "He wants me in that ring for some faulty revenge. He wants a mask he has made no effort to regain. He wants to hit me where it hurts." Bryce gets to the top and stands on the cage. There waiting for him is a dummy clad in a souvenir Zero mask. "He wants me in the middle of a ring with no chance of escape." He laughs and hoists the dummy on his shoulders. "Zero, you will actually, literally die in that ring and it will be by my hand. Sign your will and give all of your possessions to Issak Otto because there will be nothing left of you when I am done." He throws the dummy off of the cage; making sure the head of the dummy bounces off of the cage before falling. He climbs down the cage to the outside and is greeted by his father.
"Turn around, son."
Bryce turns around so Wilfred can strap the Absolute Championship around his waist. Bryce turns again to face the camera. "Zero, perk up those ears of yours. I will walk into ScreamFest as the Absolute Champion and I will leave as the Absolute Champion. After all is said and done, get out of my life. You are a poison holding me back from my next championship belt." Bryce walks past the camera with his father as the camera fades to black.
