When Opportunity Knocks
Knock...........Knock............Knock!
Remember the days when you used to hear a knock at your door and your heart would jump for joy? There was someone who has taken the time to come and see you, to visit at your door. Really, it could be anyone. Friend, neighbor, foe. But now they were at your door, and a smile was on your face. Either way, there was no fear when you heard the knock, there was no worry. Remember back in the day when there was a knock on your door and you wouldn't feel anything except happy?
Well Issak doesn't, he's only twenty-two.
Now everyone is so anxiety-ridden and internet-driven. If there is a knock at your door, there's a possibility that your heart leaps a bit but it's because there shouldn't be anyone coming to your door in the first place. If someone needed to talk to you, they'd text or facebook message you, maybe even call you if it was their last resort, but popping on over to your door? It's got to be some sort of danger standing behind that closed door. Maybe you'd choose to wait, to not even open the door, to sit there with the mute on, pretending to not be home until the stranger went away. Maybe that's why Issak feels so apprehensive at the thought of this ladder match. Opportunity was knocking, but was it a friend or a foe? This could lead to something great, or something else dangerous.
"I'm sorry Mister Larsen, I know I failed at Vendetta. I wanted to get your revenge for you, but I couldn't. I already know what you're going to say, so please Mister Larsen, let me explain..."
Issak was seeing Miles Larsen, founder of the LIC, for the first time since his failing tag match at Vendetta. Truth be told, he did a decent job trying to take on the opposing team, but in the end Arianny had gotten the better of LIC. Issak imagined it was worse for Miles, having to watch it all go down and not being able to be there or stop it.
"Vendetta should have been LIC's night, we were in the perfect position to finally get some revenge on the people that have been screwing us over. I did everything I could to try winning that match, and most importantly, to show Bryce Albright exactly what a real technical submission artist can do. I wanted to prove to both of them, LIC isn't to be messed with."
"But instead, we were screwed over yet again. ZERO may have been the one to get pinned in the end, but Mister Larsen, I don't blame him in the least bit. It was that harlot, Arianny, again, trying to cheat to win. I take that back, she didn't try cheating to win, she did cheat to win. Stabbing ZERO in the eye with a stupid nail file, making sure LIC was denied our rightful win yet again! I know you're disappointed in me, that I failed to attain my goals yet again, and only have my first win to my name since coming to RSW, but I'm not going to stop trying."
"I'm going to make it up to you by participating in this ladder match at Scream Fest, and walking out with one of the briefcases. I know it's going to be rough, so many talented competitors all fighting for these four briefcases. But I'm going to make sure I get one, and I'm hoping it's going to be for a title shot. Honestly, any of the prizes would be great, but the best prizes would either be the Absolute title shot - if somehow Bryce cheats to a win again - otherwise maybe the Bay Area title."
"Issak, my boy, I'm not disappointed in you, nor ZERO, at all! Vendetta may not have been a home run for LIC, but we're on base, and I'm positive we'll be running home come Scream Fest. This is a big opportunity for you."
Issak was surprised at Mister Larsen's reaction. According to him, he wasn't angry with Issak at all.
"I'm definitely going to make the most of it, Mister Larsen! Some people may say I haven't earned my keep since coming to RSW, that even if I did end up with a briefcase and a title shot, that I wouldn't deserve it. But I've been here, fighting, Mister Larsen. I do deserve a title shot, and I'll prove it to everyone in this match. I'll make sure that everyone knows the kind of skill I have in the ring, I'll make you proud."
"I know there's going to be a lot of people in this match that are also looking to prove themselves. Everyone from newcomers, to people that have been here from the very beginning. This is the perfect opportunity to rise your stock within the company, anyone who has a brain will jump at this chance. People like Raven MacDemare and Emma Douglas have been competing in main events for weeks without a title shot, I'm sure they'd going to do anything they can to get a briefcase and make a name for themselves outside of their boyfriend's shadow. I'll have to watch out for them most, because the level they've been performing at is higher than that of most of these other participants. However, I am the best technical submission artist here. I may not be able to win by using those skills alone, but I can certainly make sure others can't continue. The majority of these competitors won't even be able to defend themselves against my style. Even Emma and Raven can't compete with me in that arena. I'm not going to allow this once in a lifetime opportunity slip through my fingers!"
He nodded, sure that he would be able to make everything up to Mister Larsen by managing to grab one of those briefcases. Issak spoke of title shots, but he also secretly wanted the ability to create an entire card to his liking. Ultimate payback, placing Arianny and Bryce in any match he'd want. All prized up for grabs were incredibly valuable.
"Don't forget Issak, in this match you'll also have one other opportunity...regarding Judas Hernandez."
"Of course! I'm not going to forget that anytime soon. You know, I'll never understand why he felt the need to target LIC, or if it was just a paid job to him, but I'm going to make sure he regrets that decision. He thinks he's all scary with his facepaint, but it only gives me more of a target. That's where my fist needs to hit, where my foot needs to connect. I have revenge on my mind, but I'm not going to let it distract me from my ultimate goal in this match. Seeing Judas fail is second on my agenda, my main purpose is getting one of those briefcases for LIC!"
"That's my boy, Issak."
Mister Larsen pats Issak on the shoulder, comforting him in this way. Issak had come to appreciate and look forward to these moments. Issak smiled, feeling more motivated now than ever before.
