“Hide and Seek.”
Riley Calix was right. The night didn’t end well for the squad of goons that looked to beat up on the outsider who nailed the trashy little girl. Riley had Jace, who in turn had ‘Gwenyth’ at his side. The barkeepers and bouncers didn’t bother trying to break it up - it would only lead to more bloodshed. So when Jace and Riley were finished, they finished their drinks and left of their own free will.
A couple of days later we find them both standing outside of a gym in San Francisco. Jace still holds ‘Gwenyth’ in his possession, brought up and rested on his shoulder. His eyes are narrowed as he stares up at the sign on the gym. Riley looks a little more relaxed and casual compared to his friend; hair pulled back into a pony tail and sunglasses covering his eyes. Riley stepped up onto the sidewalk after parking his car and walking to this location. Without even so much as a glance in his direction, Jace spoke. “You sure this is tha’ place, bruv?”
Riley’s jaw moved with every bite of his gum. A second passed before he pushed his sunglasses on top of his head. “Yeah man. Saw her come here a couple of times. Haven’t heard a peep from her, though. Who knows if she’s even still alive after you cracked her skull.” Jace smirked, remembering the vibrations her skull sent through Gwenyth after he smashed it over her head. “She fuckin’ better be. I have unfinished business with that fuckin’ slag.”
Jace said before he marched to the glass door of the gym. He grabbed the handle and pulled it open before entering with Riley following closely behind. Inside of the gym, the workers manning the reception desk all look up and gasped. Eyes wide and jaws ajar as they witness Jace walk in with a baseball bat. Jace walked past the desk and onto the main floor of the gym where various workout equipment is placed. Most of the equipment in use, but Jace doesn’t find the person he’s after. So. He made an announcement.
Bringing his bat off of his shoulder, tapping it on the railing that descended down with the four steps that brought us to the main floor of the gym. “Ladies and gentlemen. I’m lookin’ for a certain someone. I know you’re here, love. You don’t do a’ything except work out and fight, aye? Where tha’ FUCK are ya’?!” Riley stood like a statue behind Jace. Jace smirked after he shouted into the gym, catching everyone’s attention - the one’s who weren’t listening to earbuds anyway.
The ones that were, finally managed to look up and saw everyone else’s attention on the two men who began their slow descent down the steps. “One… two… Jace is comin’ for you” he sang maniacally, holding the “you” out for a second or two later than it should have been. “Come on, love, are ya’ fuckin’ here or not? You were the one who did say you weren’t afraid of a fight, right? You were the one playin’ fuckin’ tough on social media but when I stepped up, ya’ got ya’ fuckin’ head cracked - right? I promise ya’ Vendetta was nothing compared to what’s coming up for ya’.”
He said stepping down from the last step. He swung Gwyneth around, positioning her back on his shoulder as he walked onto the main floor with a certain arrogance in his step. “Ya’ want to know what I think, Violet? I think you’re just some daft tart who acts hard. A daft little tart that is putting on this whole big charade because deep down inside she knows that she’s not in this because she love’s a fight. No, no. She’s in this for the spotlight and fame. She wants to be discovered by the next big company or production studio. She’s an inexperienced wrestler steppin’ into the ring with a man with a couple years experience on ‘er. She’s steppin’ into the ring with no regard for her or her fuckin’ life. And do you want to know how I think she’s feelin’ right now?” he said, looking from side to side as he walked the floor, scoping all of the people working out.
“I think right now she’s feelin’ fuckin’ terrified. She was on ‘er fuckin’ high horse up until the last Vendetta, and then she met me. Then she met ol’ Gwenyth here. Now she knows for fuckin’ certain that she’s in the wrong business. The tales of her being a fighter? It’s all bullshit. All of these stories she’s spinnin’ are just that. Stories. She may have looked strong against her last opponents, but she has no fuckin’ chance against someone like me. Someone who’s stronger than her. She tries one of those fuckin’ flippy moves with that speed and agility, I’ll catch ‘er and I’ll throw ‘er right to the fuckin’ floor.”
He stopped mid-way through the gym, turning on the balls of his feet. He looked around before continuing. “She’s fuckin’ terrified that in this I Quit match, she’s outmatched and out-fuckin’-classed. See, how’s an "established fighter” like Violet look when she fuckin’ screams I QUIT? How’s she gonna’ fuckin’ look when I out wrestle her? Her technique is awful and when it comes to submission technique? Ya’ know, a key fuckin’ ingredient when it comes to I Quit matches, she’s fuckin’ pathetic. There’s no way she has recovered from me crackin’ ‘er fuckin’ skull in last week, and she knows that. She has a physical weakness now, and it’s one that I will exploit.”
He wore a smirk on his face as he began his walk back to where Riley stood at the bottom of the steps. “Just like I will exploit the mistakes she will make in the ring. Being inexperienced and, let’s face it, fuckin’ stupid. She has no intelligence when it comes to this dance we do, so she will make mistakes. The first mistake she made was being stupid enough to call me out, saying how she was going to take what’s mine. Don’t you know by now, love, that I don’t share my toys with others? Bad things happen to people who try to play with, or worse - steal - my toys. And Vendetta was just a preview of the things that I can do.”
By now he made his way to Riley and turned back to everyone who still watched. Stopping their routines to listen to the Welshman speak. But it was Riley who spoke up. “Let’s go, brother. She’s not here.” Riley turned. “Our little game of hide and seek continues, doesn’t it?” With a smirk, he turned and followed Riley up the steps and out of the gym.
