A banner hung on the wall inside of the private facility. “Larsen International Co.” it read. We’ve been here many times before. We’ve seen the ring where ZERO and Issak train to prepare for upcoming matches, and we’ve seen the private office of Miles Larsen which is where he holds his meetings with his clients and with Lauren Parker. Now we follow ZERO as he walks into the facility. Of course, he has his mask on and still wears a black eyepatch over his right eye. There’s no receptionist to greet him, no other clients or what have you. Just ZERO for now.
He makes his way deeper into the facility, through the hallways and corridors until he finds the wrestling ring built in the center of what looks to be a former warehouse. Cardio and workout equipment line the walls around us to give us that real private gym feel. ZERO stops walking and looks to his immediate left. Miles Larsen’s office. The door was closed over, leaving just an inch or two between the edge of the door and the frame. Without a moment's hesitation, ZERO made his way to the door and pushed it open. Inside Miles sat at his desk on the phone. Miles looked up from his phone and smiled, “Listen. I need to call you back. I’ll speak to you soon.” he said, finishing up his conversation.
ZERO stood motionless in the doorway, letting Miles hang up. Afterword Miles, with the assistance of the desk, pushed himself vertical. He still wore a brace around his knee and needed the use of a crutch to assist walking. “ZERO, I was just beginning to worry about you. I haven’t heard from you since last Vendetta. We have much strategy to talk about for Screamfest.” Miles began moving himself around his desk, still speaking. “It’s finally time, ZERO. We get our chance at Bryce Albright and the Absolute title. It’s time for us to get what we deserve.” Miles was about to say something else, but he noticed ZERO’s hands balling into fists.
“We. Us. You throw those words around like they actually mean something, Miles. But what was the last thing that we’ve done? I need to remind you that I earned my way to this championship match without you by my side. I need to remind you that the whole reason I’m in this scenario in the first place is because of you.”
Miles looked dumbfounded. He didn’t know what to say or how to react. That’s fine, ZERO didn’t give him time anyway. “You were the one who jeopardized my entire career here in the RSW with one decision. You were the one that put me on the bad side of Shawn DeLise. You were the one who started this whole thing with Bryce Albright by that stupid little conversation you had with Wilfred those months ago. If you had kept your mouth shut, then Bryce and Wilfred wouldn’t have stuck their noses into my business. Do you get where I’m going with this?”
Miles leaned back, gently sitting on the edge of his desk. His facial expression turned from a confused, bewildered look to a more stone-faced look. “I’m afraid I don’t, ZERO. The way I see it is that whatever scenario you find yourself in, in RSW - is because of me. Without me, you wouldn’t be here.”
“Perhaps, Miles. But without you... I also wouldn’t have to fight against a big buffoon with no strike defense or power, small intelligence, and piss-poor endurance. Without your meddling, Miles, we wouldn’t have been lead down the road where I was stabbed in the eye! But, without you - I will become the Absolute Champion of the company that you are, as you like to think, responsible for me being a part of.”
Miles pushed himself off of the desk, easing his weight onto his leg wincing as he does. “Is that so, ZERO? I’m afraid not. You see, I have a copy of your RSW contract with your signature on it stating that I am your agent. So, my boy, you and I are in this for the long haul. You are property of Larsen International Co.” Miles had a smile on his face, a shit-eating grin as if he himself had just won the Absolute title. ZERO took a step closer to Miles, his breath heavy beneath his mask.
“Without you, Miles Larsen, I became one of the top stars in Mexico - and without you I will become a top star in the RSW, and it begins right after I step into the steel cage and use my submission expertise to twist Bryce Albright into positions he has never even fathomed. Once his hand tap, tap, taps on that mat, year Zero begins. My involvement with the Larsen International is over. - Do you think Shawn DeLise will terminate the contract of his Absolute champion? He wants to get rid of you, not me.”
Miles’ grin faded into a hint of a smirk, “Involvement with the L.I.C. is over? I don’t think so. If you decide to walk out of that door, ZERO, you will have to answer for your actions. You know that, right?” - “Issak Otto, right? Is that why he’s competing in the ladder match for an Absolute title match? He didn’t bother to help me, or even stop Arianny at Vendetta - are you the reason why? Did you tell him to get involved in this cage match? If so, I will break him just like I’m going to break every bone in Bryce’s body - arm, legs, neck. Issak will suffer the same fate if so.”
“ZERO, there’s enough time to go back from this. We can act like this conversation never happened. But you will regret it if you don’t turn back now.” ZERO dropped his head, looking as if he genuinely was giving it some thought. But with one quick move, he lunged forward grabbing Miles by the shirt collar, turning and literally throwing him out of his office. Miles crashes to the floor, looking up in shock as ZERO turns and stalks over him. Bending down, ZERO peers directly into his eyes.
“If you come anywhere near the cage at Screamfest, I will do more than shatter your knee. Watch from the back, or from here or wherever. I don’t care, Miles. But I want you to watch the years of experience I have over Bryce come in handy. He may have technical knowledge over me, but my experience and intelligence will separate me from him. And then you? You can live with yourself knowing that you failed. You wanted to make yourself a star agent, but instead you fucked up.”
ZERO straightened up, eyes still down at Miles. “Bryce Albright will regret the day he attacked me. And then he can come and thank you, Miles, for the fact that I’ve left him in a hospital bed.” And that's when ZERO walked away.
