CONT.
Dallas couldn’t help the bitterness in his voice. He had always been the one who stood to inherit everything Andrew Blake owned. But with Eli Carlsen now in the picture and Andrew’s disdain for the way Dallas lived his life, the younger twin always knew he would be pushed to the side. “How is Eli, by the way?”
“I haven’t spoken to Elijah in a couple of weeks,” Andrew began. “I terminated my working relationship with him and we no longer speak. He was never going to be my successor. I was never going to leave everything I busted my ass for to some illegitimate son that never should have been born. I needed to do something to slap the two of you back into reality. Now I’m not sure what happened to your faggot boyfriend and quite frankly, I don’t want to know, but you seem better off without a bottom holding you down. As far as you go,” Andrew turned to Arianny. “I won’t lie. I’ve never been more ashamed of someone in my life than I was of you when you and Mondae went… rouge. I guess.”
Andrew cringed. “You made an absolute mockery of absolutely everything I have ever cared about. I nearly lost everything because my clients didn’t want to be associated with someone who couldn’t even manage his own daughter. That being said, it also helped my business in a way. When no one else wanted anything to do with Ezekiel Elliott during the draft and he had no one to turn too, he came to me and the Cowboys have never been better.”
“Isn’t he facing domestic violence charges?” Dallas always kept up with his father’s business. Andrew shot his son a glare.
“The point is, both of you have straightened up. Arianny, you married well and seem to have calmed down a bit.”
Andrew was completely clueless.
“So basically, I’m giving both of your inheritances back to you and giving back everything that was taken from you. Not that Dallas was ever cut off.” This time Andrew glared at Katt. She simply smiled.
“I don’t want anything from you.” Arianny stared right at Andrew.
Shawn began drumming his hands on the table as he looked at each member of the Blake family. He finally settled his eyes on Andrew. “Well isn’t that fuckin’ nice of you.” Shawn was getting both bored and annoyed with the entire conversation. “She doesn’t need anything from you, old man. Cause see, I got her covered. Whatever she needs, whatever she wants, I’ve got her covered. So you can take that inheritance and everything else that you may have taken away from Ari and shove it right up your fuckin’ ass. I’ve already given her more than you could, and I will keep giving her more than you ever will.”
Shawn stood up from the table and pulled Arianny up with him. His wrapped his arm around her tiny waist and motioned for her to grab her stuff. Arianny did as she was told. Katt looked delighted at the turn of events and had her eyes set on Shawn, giving him a look she shouldn’t be giving another man while her husband sat beside her. It didn’t even phase Andrew. He had his eyes locked on Arianny. The 18-year old pulled her coat off the back of her chair and shrugged her purse up on her shoulder.
“I changed my name for a reason,” she finally said and looked at both Katt and Andrew. “You both made it perfectly clear that you wanted nothing to do with me. You’ve hated me since before I was born,” Arianny directed that at Katt. “And you, have never bothered to be a parent." That was aimed at Andrew. "I won’t speak for Dallas because he’s his own person, but I’m glad I’m not a Blake anymore. I like my life the way it is right now and I’m not a pawn in some game.” She looked up at Shawn. “I’ll be in the car.” She turned on her heels and walked out of Kasukabe.
Andrew clenched his jaw. That wasn’t how that should have gone. Katt kept her eyes on Shawn. “She will ruin you. Just wait and see. She’s spoiled and she is immature, and she will never be a real woman.”
“Oh you are so wrong it ain’t even funny.” Shawn pushed his chair in and rocked the entire table, spilling his glass of water. “Fuck you.” He pointed at Andrew. “And Fuck you.” He pointed at Katt. “And fuck you.” He pointed at Dallas and then looked back at Katt again. “She’s still young, but she will be more of a woman than you ever were. And she will only make me better because in the short time I’ve known Ari, she has made my life way better than what it was before she came into it. That’s fact.”
With that, Shawn turned on his heels and left. He wasn’t interested in anything else the Blakes had to say. He found Arianny sitting on a bench just outside the restaurant. “You have the keys.” Shawn did have the keys and he fished them out of his pocket. Arianny stood up and silently they headed towards their car. “I told you it was going to be a hot mess,” Arianny finally said. If she were upset over anything that had happened, she wasn’t showing it on her face. But Shawn kind of had a feeling that she was.
“It wasn’t that bad. You know, I’m starting to think we had the wrong parent killed here.” Shawn unlocked the car, and actually opened the door for Arianny to enter. He stood and waited. “You got admit, the look on Andrew’s face was almost just too good though. I bet he never expected you to turn down what he offered. Not in a million years. What you did was right.”
Arianny paused before getting in and unexpectedly wrapped her arms around Shawn’s waist. She pulled him close to her and buried her face against his chest. “I meant what I said. I don’t want anything from him. You could divorce me tomorrow and I still wouldn’t crawl back to them.” She gave him a squeeze, pulled back, and slipped inside the car. “Instead of popcorn, I want ice cream tonight. Will you stop at the store before we go home?”
“I know you wouldn’t.” Shawn closed the car door behind Arianny, and then made his way over to the driver’s side and hopped in. “My girl wants ice cream, my girl gets ice cream.”
Arianny actually smiled and reached out to touch Shawn’s cheek. The bruising and swelling had gone down considerably and he was starting to look handsome again. “You’re the best.”

Arianny sat in the car, glued to her phone. She had sent perhaps a dozen or so texts to Mondae and so far, Mondae had yet to reply to any of them. Every time Mondae went quiet, it usually meant something bad had happened. With a sigh, Arianny finally sent a text to Jace and tossed her phone back inside her bag. Shawn had stopped at Walgreens and had been in there longer than was needed just to grab Ben and Jerry’s and potato chips.
Arianny had suddenly decided she was craving sour cream and cheddar flavored Ruffles.
When he finally reappeared, she noticed he had more than one bag in his hand. Shawn jumped back into the driver’s seat, and he placed both bags onto Arianny’s lap. He buckled up his seatbelt and then put the keys into the ignition and fired the car up.
“Decide to get you another gift at as well.”
Arianny eagerly opened the extra bag. When she saw what was inside, her face drained of all its color. She looked up at Shawn, like a deer caught in headlights. “Are you trying to be funny?”
“No Ari.” Shawn put the car into reverse. “I know people think I’m fuckin’ stupid, but something has been off about you lately, and I haven’t been able to figure it out. You’ve shown signs, and I just want to be sure.”
The princess was speechless. She knew Shawn wasn't stupid. They had spent enough time around one another for her to be sure of that. But she hadn't counted on him being so observant. Truth be told, she didn't think he paid her that much attention. Of course he would have seen the footage from earlier. RSW was Shawn’s company and nothing got past him. She dropped the offending bag into the floorboard and turned to stare out the window. It seemed to be a common theme with the two of them when things got serious or awkward. “I'm not dealing with this tonight.”
Shawn put the car into first and pulled out of the Walgreens parking lot. “You will.” That was all he said, as he began to switch gears and sped up. He drove away from Walgreens as the two sat in silence. Both were quiet the entire way home.
