“Well done, my son.” the voice says. “Now that ties have been severed, your rebirth can begin.”
ZERO stood motionless. The room was pitch black except a single light that shined down on the masked fighter. He stood with his head lowered and his Absolute championship strapped around his waist.
“Friendship. That is what he wants from you. Issak Otto is another puppet being strung along by Miles Larsen, just as you were before you freed yourself from those strings. Issak will find that out the hard way. The same way you found out, when Miles nearly cost you everything.”
ZERO allowed his mind to reflect back to Miles Larsen and the road that he had to claw and fight his way up, to end up the Absolute Champion.
“Issak Otto is manipulated. You need to make him see what you saw. You need to make him understand, as you understand. In order to become the warrior that you have become, you must shed yourself of everything holding you back. Of everything trying to control you. You were the same as Issak Otto. You were young and naive when you entered the industry and latched onto people who you thought would help you: Jamie Static, Ginny Genocide, Evan Sawyer. Once you freed yourself from their shadows, you showed signs of what you could have been. And then? Miles Larsen got his claws into you, just like he has Issak.”
Lifting his head, ZERO peered into the shadows in front of him.
“Miles Larsen has cost you more than you will ever know, ZERO. He manipulated you and he is the reason that you laid down for Arianny DeLise. And he is the reason that you lost to Lord Blake. Poor match planning by the man who held your career in his hands. Technique and submission mastery aside, you should have had Lord Blake’s number. Couple those advantages with experience, stamina and endurance - Lord Blake should have been your biggest victim to date. Instead, Miles Larsen got into your head and Lord Blake slipped through your fingers. Not again.”
“The former Supreme champion may have a lot of things on you, but one thing he does not have is technique. He cannot out-wrestle you on his best night. In fact, he got lucky on his best night with a well-timed kick. This time will be different. This time you’re deadlier, you’re hungrier and you’re focused now more than ever.”
“Bryce Albright unintentionally brought out the beast, the demon that is ZERO. With this unadulterated rage and hatred all stemming back to Miles Larsen, you finally get your rematch with Lord Blake. You finally get to step into the ring with him and break every bone in his body, one by one. It was meant to be this way. It is fate that you two have wound up in the same company at the same time. And this time it will be a Blake that falls.”
ZERO’s head tilted.
“Issak Otto and Raven MacDemare have one thing in common: manipulation. Lord Blake has Raven MacDemare wrapped around his little finger, poor little Raven doesn’t do anything without Lord’s permission. Weeks ago she needed permission in order to make a pin to win a match. Unlike Issak, though, Raven MacDemare’s in-ring skills are weak. Her greatest attribute is her speed, but her lack of any technique or skills will weigh her down. She will rely on Lord Blake telling her what to do, how to do it and when to do it.”
“Eliminate Blake and you’re left with a weak link. A helpless little girl that you will drive right into the mat. Speed will not be a factor for her. Focus on her legs, take them out with strikes and submissions and - like a vulture - pick her bones clean. Despite her family ties, she doesn’t have the in-ring knowledge. She has the industry in her blood, and has been around it for years, yet has barely retained any knowledge.”
“Give her a beating that she will remember. Show her that those wins she’s collected can be attributed to either luck or Lord’s allowance.”
ZERO took a step out of the light on him. It was right. ZERO was focused now more than ever. ZERO is reborn, and now the deadly Absolute champion has his eyes set on Lord Blake and Raven MacDemare.
