Bryce's grandmother met up with Wilfred Albright at William Bekowski's gym on a cold fall day in Markham, Ontario. It was a mild inconvenience because she lived an hour and a half away. However, it was important that she saw her grandson after he had all gone silent. He spoke nothing of his match at Scream Fest to anyone.
"How bad is it, Wilfred?" Bryce's grandmother, Wilfred's mother-in-law, on his spoke directly to Wilfred. Bryce was no where to be seen.
"Well Janet, ever since Scream Fest he has been going from work to the gym. I haven't been able to get him out of Bekowski's gym until about midnight; the kid is devastated." Wilfred let out a heavy sigh and looked toward the door of the gym. "I've already tried to talk to him, but he just won't say a word."
Janet smiled. "Let me try talking to him."
The two went inside the building that was mostly devoid of people. Wilfred led Janet to where Bryce had been training the past twenty days. His feet were planted firmly on the ground, and his hands were moving incredibly quick. "Bryce, darling," his grandmother called out. He didn't hear it; his hands kept striking a punching bag. High, high, low, high, elbow, spin, kick. His left hand protected his jaw; right where Zero would hit him. "Bryce, talk to me, child." He didn't hear her; his hands kept moving. Feint, feint, feint right kick, left hook and flurry. "Bryce, you didn't let your grandfather down."
Bryce stopped suddenly. "Of course I didn't let him down; he's be gone for years now."
"No! You should have seen him. When Scream Fest started his eyes lit up, and he saw you! He saw you wrestle, and he was so proud to see his little grandson doing the thing he used to love. He didn't care that you lost some stupid title. He was happy just to-"
"I do care!" He snapped off a quick left jab on the punching bag and turned to face his guests. "A manipulator, a liar, a monster, and a phony managed to turn the people against me. He managed to attack me not once, twice... no, no, three times! Jimmie Barassi did nothing about it. No punishment to a man who attacks me multiple times, yet Barassi tells the world he is some great equalizer. He is the bane of Mr. DeLise. Look at how that works out, he ended up punishing the wrong guy because Grand Larson and Zero twisted the story to make me the bad guy. They dragged my name through the mud, and in Barassi's ignorance, I was put into a match where I am at a disadvantage. I lost my title, and I don't even get a rematch. Instead, I am facing some cocky prick so high on herself that she too turns her back on the people that believe in her."
"That doesn't mean you have to cut us out."
"No, it means I need to be better! I need to be faster, I need to strike harder, and I need to learn striking defense. Alexis Terry hits just as hard as Zero does, and I have about the same odds against her as I have against Zero in a one-fall match. I am still bigger, stronger, and faster than she is. I am still more focused and more composed than she is. I am better technically, and I can make her tap relatively easy. However, she's got a big gas tank and she can take a beating. She can be effective through the air, but I have proven that I can ground high-flyers pretty easily."
"You are going to work yourself to death!"
"Oh no I'm not." Bryce smiles. "I am not dying without getting my Absolute Championship back. I will conquer the great evil just like in the fairy tales. When Zero turns around I will be right there; truly what can be called a great equalizer. When he tries to manipulate, cheat, and assault his next victim, I will be there dropping him onto his head until a one on one match is booked between him and I. Come hell or high water, I will be at ringside during Zero's match. I am taking back what he stole away from me." He turns back to the punching bag. "I still have an ace up my sleeve. You two can leave now. I am not done here."
