Guadalajara, Mexico: Cartel de Lucha Libre “Aniversario de la Violencia” November 17th, 2015.
Zero vs Angel Asesino
The anticipated match between Mexico’s top Técnicos is finally underway. This wasn’t about a championship, this was about respect. These two stood side by side in representing Cartel de Lucha Libre against the rudo team “los Renegados”. This match has been requested for over a year and a half by the wrestling fans all over Mexico. Zero and Asesino have competed for this company, among other top companies in Mexico but have never crossed paths until now. They stand in the ring, face to face. The lucha libre supporters in the crowd clap their hands all in unison preparing. The Arena Coliseo is jam packed for this event, for this match specifically. Zero nods his head in time with the claps, pointing out to the Lucha crowd – some donning masks replicating Zero or Angel Asesino. The two took steps back from one another just as the bell sounded to begin the match.
This match would see a sound technical wrestler, specializing in Submissions with strong style strikes in Zero versus the speedy, agile and death-defying aerialist style of Angel Asesino. The match began with Angel taking a step into the middle of the ring and offering a handshake, which Zero returned. After which, Angel used his speed to circle around Zero quickly. Zero lunged out to grapple Angel, however Angel ducked and sprinted away to the ropes. Zero turned around in time to catch Angel jumping up, and wrapping his legs around the head of Zero – taking him down with a beautiful flying headscissors. Both lucha’s back to their feet quickly, but Angel removes Zero’s footing with a leg sweep. Quick pin attempt, only getting a one count though.
Back to their feet, Angel throws a leg kick to an unsuspecting Zero and the smack of contact echoes in the Coliseo. Zero favored the leg after the kick, but when Angel attempted another one – Zero blocked it and countered with a European uppercut that staggered the other Lucha. Angel shook off the attack and attempted to quickly go back to work, but a deep Japanese arm drag saw the quick and agile Lucha grounded. Zero kept a hold on the arm, wrenching back with an arm bar. It’s too early in the match to keep the high-flier grounded, and he works his way back up. Using his close proximity to the ropes, he reaches out grabbing the top rope and flipping forward, loosening Zero’s armbar. Angel then uses his free arm to chop away Zero’s before fluidly following up with a beautiful dropkick, sending Zero down.
Zero works his way back up to his feet with Angel waiting in the corner now. Angel’s mounted the middle rope and once Zero is vertical, Angel leaps off and hits a perfect hurricanrana from the middle rope. Fluidly, though, Angel is quickly up to his feet and so is Zero. Angel sprints to the far side ropes, coming back for Zero to attempt a hip toss – but Angel flips forward landing on his feet and continuing his sprint. On his way back, Zero bends forward for a backbody drop, but Angel rolls over the bent Lucha and continues his sprint. Zero turns around quickly just as Angel comes back. Zero grabs the speedy Lucha and lifts him into the air, only for Angel to grab ahold of Zero’s arm, rolling down with an armdrag. The momentum enables Zero to roll to his feet but he finds himself in the corner.
Angel lets out a yell to the Lucha-faithful that have packed the Coliseo, and they shout right along with him. He lowers his head and charges into the corner, looking to hit a running dropkick to his cornered opponent – which happens to be a signature move of his. However, Zero has it scouted perfectly and moves away at the last second, sending Angel crashing through the turnbuckles. The crowd lets out a collective “ooooh” after impact, and Angel falls to the mat taking real damage for the first time this evening. Zero is quick on the offensive, though, picking Angel up only to Suplex him back down to the mat. And now Zero was in control, immediately turning Angel onto his stomach, extending his arm and stretching it back.
Another yell escapes Angel, but not one of pride or adrenaline – now it was one of pain and agony. Zero stepped over the outstretched arm, applying more pressure pulling back. He kept this for a few moments, but knowing Angel wouldn’t submit just yet, he released the hold. Angel held his arm briefly as he pushed himself up to a kneeling position, which is when Zero marched into the corner, back to Angel. He watched over his shoulder as Angel pushed himself to his feet, and as he did that, Zero turned his head back to look in front of him, jumped up and springboarded off of the middle ropes. Turning mid-air, he connects with a roundhouse kick to Angel. The smack of his boot hitting his masked skull stuns the audience as Angel falls straight back to the mat.
Zero waits for Angel to stir, which doesn’t take too long. Zero waits in the corner, watching Angel roll into the middle of the ring before pushing himself up to his feet. Zero took a running charge at Angel, hitting him in the chest with a hard double palm strike that sent the high-flier rolling back into the corner. Zero watches and then charges into the corner after Angel, but Angel lifts his legs, causing Zero to run directly into his boots. Zero drops to the floor, and Angel climbs to the top rope. Angel lifts his arms, and jumps off – looking for his shooting star press finishing maneuver. And with the grace of a soaring eagle, Angel flies through the air. However. Zero rolls out of the way. Angel notices mid-rotation, and lands on his feet, though stumbling. By the time he’s to his feet, Zero is as well. Angel turns around only to see a charging Zero, and before he can react – SMACK! A sick running single leg dropkick.
The fans, the one’s that had been sitting, shot to their feet! Zero exploded back up and crouched in the corner, watching Angel. Angel rolled onto his stomach, beginning to push himself up when Zero charges to him quickly and drives his knee down into the back of Angel’s head! Another pop from the crowd. That would normally be where Zero finished the match, but not this night. This night was big, and Angel was not just another standard opponent. So as Angel lay there, face down and drifting closer to unconsciousness, Zero wrapped Angel’s left arm around his leg before reaching out to grab his right arm. Zero stood up fully, pulling Angel’s right arm up and straight back in a hammerlock/armbar combination. As close to unconsciousness as Angel was, the instant pain snapped him back and you could very clearly hear his screams. Those screams would be masked by a sudden gasp from the entire crowd that’s gathered in the Coliseo as Zero dropped back, pulling Angel’s arm with him causing a very painful armbreaker!
Angel’s reaction was quick. He rolled around instantly, holding his arm, eventually rolling right out of the ring. The entire Coliseo went quiet as the referee leaves the ring to check on Angel. Zero rolled up to sit on a knee, his eyes focused on the referee and Angel at ringside. After a couple of moments, the referee looked into the ring. A shocked expression on his face as he shook his head. He threw the infamous ‘X’ up over his head, requesting immediate medical attention. As soon as this happens, the bell sounds and the ring announcer’s voice comes through over the P.A. as she spoke in a microphone.
Ring Announcer: “Su ganador por parada del árbitro ... ZERO!”
(“Your winner by referee stoppage … ZERO!”)
