Son-- can I call you son? I'm sorry if I get a little emotional, Dallas, but I hear you reaching out to me, crying for help. I've never been a dad before, but I've been eighteen once upon a time ago, and I know these are the rebellious years-- a time when hormones kick in and you become riddled with teen angst. So Dallas, I'm just gonna put this out there and let it land where it may.
I'm here for you, son.
There. I said it.
Now, son, allow me to speak from the heart, and impart some wisdom based upon my experience, and experience, young Dallas, that I know you lack.
First, I know that this is an unusual situation-- it's a little awkward for me as well-- and I know you don't do well in awkward situations.
I know you're lashing out, so let me have it-- that's what I'm here for-- and no matter what you want to throw at me, I am sure I can endure it. God knows I have endured much more, so do what you have to do to get it out of your system, lay your burdens on me, and when you are through, I will be here, standing over you, wrinkled balls and all, son. I don't walk away. I don't give up. I've got you covered.
Now I know, son, that your defenses are up, but I am confident I can break through your defenses, and once I do, you may find yourself choked up. Take my advice son, don't fight back, this relationship that you and I have doesn't need to be a struggle. Your submission is inevitable, Dallas, and so while they say, "Let go and let God," but I'm here to tell you, my boy, "Let go and let Hobbs."
I'm sorry, I'm starting to well up-- I wasn't prepared for this bonding experience that you and I have. Pardon me while I take a moment to regain my composure. Remind me to teach you a thing or two about that. Composure is certainly not something you can learn overnight. I know when things are not going as you planned, you tend to lose your cool. The way your father has completely disregarded you, I wouldn't blame you throwing calm out the window, but losing one's head has never done anyone any good.
