Pain.
Those who know it, usually know it all too well. Those that are unfamiliar with it, unknowingly fear it more than anything else in this world. Pain is the real ruler of this life and the next. It dictates more than any other feeling.
You never seem to realize how happy you are. You never seem to realize how sad you are. When you're in pain, you know it. You remember it. You feel it.
Those of us lucky enough to be forged in pain and still alive to tell those tales are forever molded by it.
As the scene becomes clearer you can see a man overlooking a large lake at night. You can feel your own chills as a solid cloud of frozen air finds it's way out of the man's mouth. The scene begins to brighten a bit but all you really notice is the face. The face of a man searching for something and not caring what lengths he has to go for it. A face that makes you think perhaps someone else is standing around him and just asked a question to him.
The source of the brightness reveals itself as a rising sun. Beyond the lake you can see the orange circle creeping it's way over the horizon. Another cloud of faux smoke escapes the teeth of our man.
He nods.
In the same moment he dips slightly and picks up his duffel bag. The camera, currently facing him and away from the lake, begins to zoom out. With the bag over his shoulder our man turns around and looks towards a black sedan that you can now see and can tell has been running. His back to the camera our man begins to walk towards this car.
The camera follows.
He opens the back door and tosses the bag in. He turns and takes one final look at the lake he had been staring at as he slowly opens the driver side door.
The camera slowly zooms in on him.
Never acknowledging the camera as his gaze appears reluctant to leave the view of the lake. His mouth begins to move as if he wants to say something.
"Soon."
He settles in to the car. The door closes shut and a moment later it takes off in the opposite direction of the sunrise.
Pain is headed West.
