A Very Temporary Goodbye

“Are you sure about this?”

The voice of Raven MacDemare greets our ears as the scene opens up. The young brunette is standing inside San Francisco International Airport, right by the Delta Airlines counter. With her is the soon-to-be RSW Supreme Champion, Lord Blake, and he is pulling a set of pink, floral print luggage behind him. The suitcase set obviously doesn’t belong to him, it belongs to Raven, and she is holding a boarding pass in her hand.

“It’s for the best Rave. This vendetta between us and Archer is coming to a head and I don’t know how bad it will be these next two weeks. I don’t put anything past Archer, and I don’t want you involved anymore than you’ve already been. Once I get done with him and get that championship, everything will be fine again.”

Lord’s voice is full of confidence despite the fact he hadn’t exactly gotten a fair victory this past Thursday. Jack Owyns had shown up and gotten his revenge on Mondae Chaos by taking away the only thing she cared about in the world - the RSW Supreme Championship. Regardless of the why and how, Lord has his shot at the championship and more importantly, his chance at Archer. Deception was going to be a means to an end for the young Calgary native, but like always, his girlfriend’s safety is his first priority.

“But I need to be with you.” Raven’s voice holds a bit of a whiny tone to it. She’s not at all happy that for once in their relationship Lord is putting his foot down about something. “I’m not made of glass, babe, and I don’t want to go to Paris.”

Lord stops them and sighs. He doesn’t exactly want Raven to go either, but he knows it’s for the best. He takes her face in his hands and kisses her forehead. “You love Paris. It’s your favorite place in the world besides Charlotte. It’s just temporary, Rave. I just need to deal with this on my own.”

“But we’ve always been a team.” Her bottom lip juts out in the cutest pout Lord has ever seen and it nearly breaks his heart when her beautiful brown eyes fill with tears. He wasn’t going to give in this time. Just looking at Raven’s battered and bruised face was enough to make his hatred for Archer override whatever emotional decision he was willing to make just to stop the love of his life from crying.

“And nothing or nobody is going to change that,” Lord agrees. “But when I put that promise ring on your finger when we were seventeen, I made a vow to always protect you and up until now, I have failed. I won’t fail again, Rave. And honestly, I’m not sure I want you to see what I’m willing to do to make sure Archer never interferes in our lives again.”

All Raven can do is basically sigh. She pulls away from Lord, puts some distance between them, and tucks her hair behind her ears. “If you think I won’t be at Deception, then you’re crazy. I’m not going to miss you winning the Supreme Championship. I’ll be back in time for the show.” Raven didn’t leave room for argument. Some battles aren’t worth fighting so Lord lets it go. He follows Raven to the security check, where they’ll have to separate, and takes her by the hand. “Raven, before you go, there’s something I want you to have.”

A smile touches her lips. This was their thing every time Raven took a flight without Lord. She waits while he pulls a box out of his pocket and of course, she hurries to open it. Inside is a gorgeous necklace, a necklace that has been gifted to Raven over and over. She can’t help but laugh a little.

“Oh! It’s beautiful. But wait a minute, isn’t this?”

“Yeah. Yes it is.”

“But I thought the old lady dropped it into the ocean in the end.”

“Well baby, I went down and got it for you.”

“Awww! You shouldn’t have!”

Raven throws her arms around Lord and the two kiss passionately. In addition to their love for Disney musicals, they also share a love for Britney “Godney” Spears. The necklace is also a cheap little replica of the Heart of the Ocean from ‘Titanic’, which is Raven’s favorite movie. Raven breaks the kiss and clutches the box containing the necklace to her chest. “I love it. You’re the best.”

“I’ll miss you Ravey.”

Raven tears up again and goes for one last embrace. Lovey separation is never easy but the look on Lord’s face lets everyone know he truly believes this is the for best. He’s not going to stop until Archer has felt everything he and Raven have felt, and Raven heading for the security line is the last thing we see as the scene fades to black.
