All The Other Kids..."All the other kids with the pumped up kicks,You better run, better run, outrun my gun..."
There she was. The debuting Hailey Banks in the training facility used by the RSW athletes here in San Francisco. The former LLC Tag Team Champion chose the wrong time to come in, though it would seem. If you were her, anyway. Her best friend Raven MacDemare had just departed for Paris and Lord was too far gone in "serious mode" to actually be fun to hang around with. In other words, being a real butt face. And to make matters worse? She had a debut match. Normally that wouldn't be something that made things worse, you would think, but when you factor in one of the men she's facing it does. It just happened to be her other friend, Aidan Van't Hoff. Like, what the hell? "The Fraternity" as their internet lovers have called the awesome-foursome, hasn't been a real clique since Aidan and Hailey signed here - other than the one night they all hung out at a local bar.
All of these thoughts were running through her head as she breathed a heavy breath, stepping in front of the squat rack. The plates were loaded previously as we're beginning to film on her second set. The earbuds placed inside of her ears, connected to her iPod, play the title track for this promo. It's a little tune that helps get her to focus on the task at hand. And, honestly - it's quite fitting.
Nodding her head with the tune, she began to think. 'All the other kids...', Genocide, Bryce Alright, Aaros, eNoch, Arthur Thomas and even Aidan - they were all the other kids in this scenario. Hailey was coming into this company with no one knowing a thing about her. That could be used to her advantage, and she knew that. For as bubbly and carefree as she seems to be on social, or even in promos of her friends that she cameo's in, Hailey was a well-trained competitor. She knew the ins and outs of the ring from spending time in Mexico, and of course from being taught by Bob Holly.
Hailey knew that the others in the match were equally as trained as her and some have even spent far more time in the industry than she has. Hailey knew that this match was going to be a challenge for her. And even though her dear friend, Aidan, was included - she was all by herself in there. Even though he was there, it was every person for themselves. She had to watch her own back and capitalize on any opportunity that came her way. It was going to be a mess, for sure. Eight people all looking for the same payout at the end of this.
The Absolute Championship.
While looking into the mirror in front of her, she exhaled deeply and took her position underneath the weight bar. Lifting off of the rack, she stepped back and perfectly completed a squat.
Of course, the camera got a good view of this.
She would go on to complete her set before placing the bar back on the rack. After making sure it locked securely in place, she picked up a towel that lay nearby and wiped the sweat from her brow before removing the ear buds. A beautiful smile crossed her face as she laid her eyes on the camera,
"There you are! Was beginning to wonder if you were even coming or not." She said, her voice carrying a certain level of excitement. It was her first official RSW promo, after all. "I showed up in San Fran a couple of weeks ago and signed with the company, and was told I would be having my big debut on the Deception card. But when I looked at it, like, I couldn't believe it. My first match and I've been put in a title match! That's super exciting." And she was sincere. The smile on her face told the story.
She placed the towel back in it's previous position before moving over and sitting on the bench nearby. "I've barely been able to contain my excitement. You know, I came from a promotion down in Mexico where I was half of the last tag team champions. I haven't had many opportunities to get into the ring and show what I can do by myself, let alone compete for a singles title. So I'm reeeeallllyyyyy looking forward to this!" She held the word "really" out for effect. "I'm not stupid, though. Even though I'm a hundred percent confident in my abilities, I also realize that I am the only woman in this match. I'm a easy hundred and twenty-five pound target for any of the guys in this match. They could easily over power me and pick me up to toss me over the rope and end my night quicker than I would like. I'm going to have to use my speed, technique and intelligence to my advantage and save my butt."
She had those three things in spades. It's not to say the others in the match didn't, but Hailey couldn't focus on just one person's strengths and weaknesses. She had seven to worry about. She could put one person down, turn around, and get laid out by another. That's how these things went. As long as she kept her focus, and kept her head on a swivel - she should be okay, she thought.
"Aidan, some walking skeleton freako Cartwright, another weirdo eNoch, baldy Aaros, Bryce Alright, Arthur Thomas and Genocide. ... Wait ... Genocide? Rave's dad!? He's old, what's he doing here?" She shrugged a little, "Doesn't matter. Unfortunately, they're all the other kid's that are in the match that is going to be a successful debut for that Hailey Banks girl, tho. I'm going to do everything in my power to make sure that I walk out with my head and my arms held high. To make sure that I become the Absolute champion. Just imagine that. It will be pretty goshdarn sweet, won't it? All the other kids are standing in my way and I'm going to have to do everything I can in order to send them over the top rope. I'm at a little disadvantage, but I'll figure out a way. I always do!"
She was quite the optimist. She always looked for the silver lining, and somehow, would always find one. This match would be no different. Being the only woman in the match and outweighed and out powered drastically wouldn't be a deterrent - it would be a challenge. One that she would meet head on, and overcome. She grinned, "I'm gonna' make it happen, trust me friends!"
And that was her break. She smiled again before placing the earbuds back inside of her ears. After standing up, she gave the camera a wave before moving back to the squat rack. With another deep breath, she positioned herself under the bar and began her last set. Leaving us with that image again."All the other kids with the pumped up kicks,
You better run, better run, faster than my bullet...."
