Immediately After Vendetta
“I told you, Aiden! I fucking told you this is not for you! Did you see what happened out there?! Some woman put her hands on me and knocked me out of the way! It was awful! I could have been hurt. I could have suffered some awful injury. This place is nothing more than some psych ward.”
“What do you want me to fucking say? You had no business being at ringside anyway. You’re not employed by RSW and I definitely didn’t want you there. You should have stayed home where you fucking belong.”
Aiden and Maisi were in the parking lot, staring daggers at one another. They had been fighting since getting backstage after Hailey had saved Aiden from an unnecessary beatdown at the hands of Archer and Emma Douglas.
“We’re going back to Hurley. I am putting my foot down. I am calling your father and come Monday we can start the life we’re supposed to have. We’ll set a wedding date and everything will be perfect.”
Nothing about that sounded perfect to Aiden. In fact, he found himself at a brief loss for words. Going back to Hurley was not an option. Working for his father would never be his life. Chandler Bradford Van’t Hoff was an asshole, simply put.
For decades the Van’t Hoff family had been investors in the oil business thanks to Steadmon Van’t Hoff striking it rich in Texas in the early 1800s. Generations of ruthless businessmen, who made shady arrangements, made up the patriarchy of the Van’t Hoff family. They currently owned drilling sites all across the southern United States. Careful management of money had gotten them through every single financial crisis the country had ever gone through, including the most recent recession. Aiden’s father, Chandler, was currently the head of Van’t Hoff Global Energy which was based in Pascagoula, Mississippi. VHGE produced over 13.9 million gallons of crude oil per day. It was really fucking boring.
Maisi’s father, Raymond Tyler Alexander IV, was the current Commissioner of the Office of Land Management. Together, Raymond and Chandler made a deadly team. The Alexander family were big-time shareholders when it came to VHGE. The two families had been tied together for decades. You couldn’t run a big-time corporation without having politicians in your back pocket and that’s what the Alexanders were. They were politicians. Maisi’s grandfather, Raymond Tyler “Trey” Alexander III served as the Governor of Mississippi until 2012 when he retired from politics.
Aiden shook his head. “No.”
“What do you mean, no? You don’t get to protest this, Aiden. You don’t have a choice. This little wrestling thing was great fun and all, but now it’s time to grow up. You will never win a match or make it in this company. These people are blood thirsty and crazy. You don’t belong. Archer destroyed you tonight and you got your ass kicked to cap everything off. Lord may have been born into this life and Hailey may have chosen it, but you decided to come here because you wanted to piss off your parents. You never truly had goals or aspirations. You just don’t want to own up to your responsibilities.”
Maisi snatched open the door of Aiden’s customized and rather flashy brand new Chevy Silverado truck. She tossed her bag inside the vehicle and folded her arms across her chest.
“Furthermore,” Maisi continued because she wasn’t done, not by a long shot. “I don’t appreciate the fact you spend more time with Hailey than you do with me. I’m the one who wears your damn ring. Not her. It also pisses me off to no end that you run around and flirt with basically every piece of ass that works here. I have turned a blind eye to your cheating before, but you will not cheat on me with some little wrestler slut. I saw your exchange with Sammi Myers on the boards because you know I see everything. I also heard your little exchange with Arianny Blake earlier today.”
Aiden actually cringed. That was news to him.

Hours Before Vendetta
Aiden was well aware that his time to approach Arianny was limited. Shawn DeLise had yet to arrive at The Arena for his first show as the new owner of Ready, Set, Wrestle. Arianny had arrived a few minutes ago. Mondae Chaos and Jace O’Brien had been with her, but the three had gone in opposite directions as soon as they had entered the building. The Arena was still wrecked thanks to Arianny’s vandalism. Aiden wasn't exactly sure why Arianny Blake was so tempting for him. She was blond. Thanks to Maisi he would always hate blonds. She was small, not a single curve to her body. Aiden liked having shit to squeeze, whether it was a nice ass or a set of fake tits. The girl just screamed trouble. The company she kept was questionable. His boss had marked the girl as his own. And quite frankly, Arianny didn't seem to be the most stable person around.
Truth be told, the last four reasons were exactly why Aiden was attracted to the troubled teenager.
Arianny had disappeared into Shawn’s office so Aiden decided to follow suit. He paused outside the closed door and then knocked.
“What?!”
Aiden smirked and took that as his cue to open the door. The office was destroyed and Arianny was standing in the middle of the wreckage playing on her phone. When she spied Aiden, her hazel eyes narrowed and she placed a hand on her hip. “Oh it’s you.”
“Don't act like you're disappointed,” Aiden replied and shut the door behind him. As usual, his arrogance was on display and he gave Arianny an appreciative look. She did not seem receptive. “Well?”
“Well, you had to know it was only a matter of time before I approached you. That night at SF Citadel keeps replaying over and over in my mind. Granted, I could kick myself for not immediately recognizing you that night but leather and riding crop clouded my judgment.”
Arianny yawned. “Well obviously it's because I’m rich and I’m hot. Men get stupid around me. It’s happened my whole life.” She explained this in the bored tone. “I think it’s cute that it’s September and you are likely still jerking off to something that happened in July. Nothing really happened that night except I finally gave in and kissed you a few times. It was nothing. Shawn kisses better than you and he uses waaaaaaaay too much tongue.”
Aiden knew for a fact he was an expert kisser and didn’t believe a word that came out of Arianny’s mouth. “You say that, but the fact your hands kept traveling to places they shouldn’t have gone says otherwise, princess.”
Arianny fixed Aiden with a glare that would make most people cower. “Look. It would serve you well to forget that night ever happened. I was drunk, we made out, and I got handsy like seriously one time and what I felt wasn’t that impressive.” She glanced down at the crotch of his pants and squinted. “I’m practically your boss now and when Shawn finally returns from Vegas, I know we will work things out.”
“I’m not worried about DeLise, sweetheart. Not to mention, you being my boss is kind of a turn on. But I’ll back off for now. But it’s like I told you that night, I appreciate a challenge.”
“Whatever, pretty boy. You will never get this, in any way, ever again.”
---
“Yeah, Hoff. I watched you follow her into Shawn DeLise’s office and yeah, I listened at the door. Fuck you for that. I only wish I would have recorded the conversation so I could send it to her boyfriend and maybe he would fire her.”
Maisi was quickly losing control of her emotions and Aiden had zero desire to try and do damage control. She got in his truck, faced forward, and folded her arms across her chest. “We are going back to Hurley.”
Aiden scuffed the toe of his shoe against the concrete and raked his hand through his hair. “Like I fucking said, I am not going back. Things haven’t gone my way here YET. But that doesn’t mean they won’t. I have a chance at redemption in a couple of weeks. I got another chance to fight for a championship and this one is a hell of alot better than the Absolute Championship. I can also get a little revenge on Albright in the process.”
Maisi gave him a death glare. “Sammi Myers is also in the match.”
“And? Business is business. I’m going to win and then I am going to beat whoever wins the other match.”
Maisi wasn’t buying it. “For the past two matches, you have said that you’re going to win and all you’ve done is fail. I have no faith that this next one is going to be any different and I don’t even remotely know why you’re bothering.”
Aiden didn’t reply. He knew exactly why he was bothering. Failing to make it as a wrestler simply wasn’t an option. The boring, vanilla life waiting for him back at home would never be his existence.
"Just get in the fucking truck and take me home. I want to be as far away from this place as possible."
/End.
