“You really shouldn’t worry about what any of them say Sammi.”
The person speaking is, of course, the beautiful blonde bestie of Sammi Myers, Michelle Fletcher. The 23-year-old talent agent is set up next to Sammi. Both women are cuddled up under a comforter adorned with large pink and yellow flowers. Sammi is wearing a flannel nightshirt, the buttons done up until the one right below her collar bone, showing the glint of a gold necklace. Michelle has her hair up in a sloppy bun, her face void of any makeup that of which she wore plenty of.
Sammi looks skeptical of her friend's words and looks at her while biting her lower lip.
“Seriously. The fact that Zach Knight has shown up in RSW just because you are here is kinda stalkerish don’t you think?”
Sammi shakes her head.
“He’s here because his mom told him to come here.”
Michelle’s face takes one of complete displeasure, disdain even.
“That woman! She wants blood from a stone. It isn’t enough that you signed over the gym to her when that old fogey died but now she wants her son to destroy your career as well? What the fuck is her problem.”
“Chelle!” Sammi scolds. “No need to use bad language. It’s not really her fault you know.”
Michelle rolls her eyes. “Oh? Please, enlighten me ho this is your fault exactly?”
Sammi shakes her head, “Not my fault either.”
Michelle gives her a look, to which Sammi sighs.
“I have never met her so I can’t really judge her too much Chelle. But from what Cillian told me about her, they didn’t have the best relationship. When Cillian and Delia’s mom split up, she went to live with her and Cillian hardly ever saw her. I mean he admits that it was mostly his own fault for not going to see her but part of it was Delia’s mom not letting Cillian see her either. He just sorta, gave up.”
Michelle opens her mouth to say something but Sammi keeps talking.
“I know, I know. Any real father wouldn’t give up seeing his only daughter but it was different back then and Cillian wasn’t exactly good with all the emotional stuff. But when they read the will and he left the gym to me, someone he’d only known two years... well... that probably just opened up her wound a little more. But I knew it wasn’t right that I should get it, so I signed it over to her. I didn’t ask for anything for it. My gram and my lawyer both said it was foolish but I know that it was supposed to be hers. But she was expecting the gym to be... I dunno. I guess she expected it to be this largely profit making business but it really wasn’t. Cillian didn’t do it to make money, he did it because he wanted to help people. So maybe he seemed like this grumpy old Irish man but in reality, he had a really big heart, he just didn’t know how to show it.”
Michelle smiled.
“Well, I was only there with you for the first year. I guess he didn’t warm up to me like he did you.”
Sammi smiles. “Gram says that I can make even the meanest person smile eventually. She said that even when I was a baby I was always smiling. Hardly ever cried. I guess I made him comfortable enough to talk to me about some stuff. I dunno. But even now, after I gave back the gym. I didn’t ask for anything and still, she wants to see me hurt. She wants to ruin everything I have and I don’t know why. I have never done anything.”
Michelle sighs. “She blames you for the gym being in debt.”
“Oh, I know. But really, how can me... just one person really cause the debt of a whole gym. I wasn’t the only person he was training and I’m sure I wasn’t the only person that he wasn’t taking full payment from. I tried Chelley. I tried to give him the right amount but he would never take it. But that’s how people are. You know that working with all those Hollywood people. It’s always easier to blame someone else for things. She feels guilty about not knowing her dad and in turn, she has pushed that hate on to Zach. He doesn’t even know that I gave the gym back to his mom. I bet she never told him.”
Michelle puts a comforting hand on Sammi’s shoulder.
“I don’t think so. Because then he would have no reason to hate you. I bet she didn’t tell him about all the other people he wouldn’t take full payment from either.”
Sammi shakes her head.
“I don’t think so either. Delia didn’t even show up to the will reading. It was just me there. She wasn’t at his funeral either. Again, was just me and his students. Zach wasn’t even there. So it does bother me that he claims to be fighting for his family, his grandfather’s name but yet until he died, he didn’t even give two thoughts about him. But you know, Cillian never talked badly. About either of them. He had pictures of them both all over his office too. That’s how I knew who he was the moment he signed up for RSW. He didn’t even know who I was until his mom tried to tell him about me. She painted this picture of me being someone I wasn’t and now, he can’t wrap his mind around how different I am here. Like, I’m faking it and his mom is right. And I get that. You want to trust that your parents know everything. I mean, how many years did I believe Gram’s stories about how much change could hurt you?”
Michelle laughs.
“I love your gram just as much as if she were my own Sammi, but yes. I remember. And I also remember it being such an ordeal to get permission for you to even come over to my house for sleepovers.”
Michelle chuckles and then looks at her friend with fondness.
“You know how much I love you Sammi. Despite there being two years between us, I never felt like there was any. I wish you would consider moving in here with me.”
Sammi looks around the large Hollywood apartment and smiles.
“You know I can’t leave Gram alone for too long. She needs me.”
Michelle shakes her head. “Your Gram can take care of herself. I don’t mean to come off mean like I said, I love your gram too but you need to start living your own life. She kept you sheltered for so long, You didn’t even get to go to a real school.”
“My Gram taught me everything I needed to know. I did get my GED.”
“I know Sammi, but you didn’t have that high school experience. Did you ever think the reason why you come off so naive is because you have never had to deal with pain and suffering. You haven’t even had a real heartbreak yet. Never felt love. Never been truly hurt.”
Sammi looks insulted.
“I was very hurt when Cillian died. And well... the love part... well...”
Michelle raises an eyebrow. “Who?”
Sammi blushes. “Well I kinda have a crush but it's obvious that he doesn’t think that way about me.”
“Who?!” Michelle says again.
“Matt.”
“Matt Reece? Really? No offense Sammi but no. He’s known for being a bit of a womanizer. You don’t want to lose your innocence to that guy.”
“Excuse me Michelle Fletcher but I think that decision is mine to make. Besides, he already told me I wasn’t his type anyway.”
“It’s his loss but still... You deserve someone else. Someone that isn’t going to look at you like some... some flavor of the month.”
“You don’t know him like I do.”
“OH?”
Michelle looks skeptical.
“He’s sweet. And he really does care. I hardly think he’s just out to get... Well... you know... from women.”
Michelle smirks. “Every guy is out to get that from women, even if they want a lasting relationship. They all want sex.”
Sammi blushes harder.
“When the time is right Sammi, you’ll know. You’re not a kid anymore. Just... be careful okay?”
Sammi nods, her face still bright red.
“Now... time to finish this movie. No movie is bad when it has Ryan Gosling in it.”
Sammi giggles as the scene fades out.
