Moving On
*****
OFF CAMERA
We open in the home of The Knights; it was the home that Zachary grew up with his father Jamie and his mother Delia. It is the same home of lies that Delia has built in her husband’s passing, poisoning her son’s mind with lies and half-truths. Zachary comes home after the meeting with Sammi Myers, in which he learns the truth of his grandfather’s gym. It was Sammi who he left it to, but she felt wrong keeping it. Signing it over to Delia, she and her son has decided to sell the gym to pay for the outstanding debt that Cillian had accrued. Zachary was told it was Sammi and the other recruits fault, but she had explained that Cillian would refuse to take much if any of the money. It was his choice, not the bartering of the young Sammi Myers. Zachary found this hard to believe, but in his final years Cillian had not been close with his grandson. Much of that was thanks to his daughter, Delia… the mother to Zachary that weaved lies like Charlotte and her web.
Zachary arrived back to his childhood home a day after meeting and actually getting to know Sammi Myers. A woman that he would find to be less of a vampire than Delia would accuse. She was actually quite nice… spunky… positive… and cute. But was Zach sure she was not trying to twist the truth as well? She DID show him the papers that showed she was the original receiver of the gym after Cillian’s death… why would she lie? And it shows a crack in the already fragile relationship between Zachary and his mother.
Zachary slides the key in the door, unlocks it, and steps in. He is soaking wet; a common weather pattern in Seattle, Washington.
“Zachary? Is that you?” Delia calls out.
“Yeah. It’s me.”
“Come in here. In the kitchen.”
Zach drops his bag, slides off his shoes. He heads into the kitchen, his short hair slicked hair and soaking wet.
“Yeah?”
“Don’t ‘yeah’ me… I am your mother.”
“Well then act like it.”
“Excuse me?”
She raises a hand to Zach, but he quickly grabs it and stops her.
“Enough, Delia.”
“Delia? It is mother.”
“I will call you mother, when you act like it.”
“Where is all of this coming from? Since you met this Sammi girl-”
“Sammi showed me the papers. I saw them. So come clean. What else have you been hiding?”
“Nothing. It was OUR gym. She shouldn't’ have had it.”
“Shouldn’t and didn’t are two different things. Do you even know about grandpa not wanting to take her money?”
“Yeah. Likely story.”
“And you are someone that I need to believe? You’ve already tried to pull shit. And I know how vindictive you can be.”
“You should not talk to your mother… to me… like this.”
“And you should have never been the bitch you were to dad, either.”
Zach shakes his head and heads back towards the front door to head upstairs. He hears Delia yell out.
“I’m not done!”
He whispers to himself. “I am.”
Zach heads up the stairs and begins to go through his clothes and things, packing what he can in boxes ready to start the next step in his life.
