I don't have a fairy tale life.

Every little girl dreams of being a princess, even me but I'm not naive enough to believe it would actually happen like some girls.

When I was three, my life drastically took a different path.

While driving from San Diego where I was born, to visit my grandmother in Las Vegas, my parents were struck by a driver diagnosed with schizophrenia. The woman behind the wheel thought my parents were trying to hurt her.

She survived though.

Unfortunately my parents didn't.

One other person survived.

Me.

I don't remember much of it. The memories have faded more and more each year and now, the only things I remember are my mother holding me and singing as her life faded away, and my grandmother picking me up and crying into my hair at the loss of her only son.

Most people would say that I was lucky, a miracle.

I vowed never to let myself get sad. To be positive and stand up for what was right. To be a good person so my parents could look down and be proud of me and I think they would be.

I know they are.

So this person that most of you see, it's not fake. It's not some gimmick. I bring out the serious part of myself when it needs to be brought out, but I am happy with my life, the person I am. I know that bothers some people because deep down they envy that I know that at only twenty-one. So they try to destroy that. Push me down, try and instil doubt. They think I can be stepped on and treated like garbage. Like some kid.

But it doesn't work.

I will never be broken.

Sammi watches the video she made, she smiles to herself before clicking the big ‘X’ button. A box pops up:

WOULD YOU LIKE TO SAVE?

Sammi clicks no and the video disappears. She folds her hands in front of her. She didn't have to explain herself to anyone. She didn't owe any of them anything.

She stands, picking up a duffel bag with ‘my little pony’ on it and walks from the room as she whistles a little tune.
