Stand Up
*****
ON CAMERA
Zachary Knight is standing in front of a camera. Behind him, a desk with a few stacks of books. A couple bottles of water. And a few pictures in frames. He looks into the camera and begins.
“What is a ‘revolution’? It is a fundamental change in political power or organizational structures that take place in a relatively short period of time when the population rises up in revolt against the current authorities.”
Zach breathes deep, and he continues.
“What a long definition; thanks Wikipedia!”
He smiles and gives a cheesy thumbs up almost looking to get a cheap pop by an absent audience.
“But seriously. The Revolution. That is what they call themselves. And they are fighting a fight that needs some eyes on it. Against the Mean Girl Mafia. But how does it compare to say, the American Revolution? Or the French Revolution? I mean, standing up against tyranny is something that people have long been doing. And it is standing for SOMETHING. Yes. But a rally to try to get some wrestlers out of a position of power? It is like you are on the debate team and are tired of the cool kids having their ways. Are they kids? Damn right. But where I come from, we settle our own issues. If they fuck with me, I fuck with them back. Simple. I stand up for myself and if I have a misstep, I come back even stronger the next time around. Will I get knocked down? Sure, sometimes. But in the end, it will be my own determination that leads me to conquer them.”
Zach takes a deep breath again, and a drink of water from his bottle. He places it back onto the desk. He is more conversational in his approach then he normally is, and it is coming across quite passionately.
“While Bear is focusing on talking me up and then hitting with a dig, I am focused on this match. We both are, Sammi and I. We have been training, and talking daily. And Hanalei? She hopes that Sammi and I will make our way to her rally again the mean girls of Ready.Set.Wrestle. Instead of focusing in on our match. Now I know that Sammi was having some fun as a beekeeper, and yet she talked about about her opponents and what mattered than Hanalei did. I get that HanaBear, yes I went there, are likely a couple of great people. But I feel like their focus is pointed in the wrong direction. Team Zammi is focused on the task at hand, and we both will allow our actions to do our talking when it comes to any sort of revolution.”
He has a seat on the desk chair; a sturdy no frills wooden chair. His legs squared away as he sits up straight. He does not slouch and maintains a proper back arch.
“I am all for change. And it is change that drives people and nations towards the future. Drives them for the better. Seeing moments that change us forever… to change history. Seeing the inauguration of Barack Obama. Seeing the tearing down of the Berlin Wall. Seeing man land on the moon. Truly great moments. The birth of this very nation; a revolution helped to maintain the colonies to become these United States. But to uprise against some mean girls? To stop people from messing with you? Just gloried bullies? I get it; it is a cause that means a lot to you. But perhaps priorities need to be put in place? I am not trying to be a dick nor am I trying to say that they aren’t terrible in their own ways. I just think that if you want to get into the ring, it is best to focus on what is in front of you instead of waging some sort of war. Outside of the ring, if you want someone to have your back.”
Zach smiles as he stands up, sliding the chair back under the desk. He shuts off the desk lamp as the room is dark other than the light emitting from the phone to record the video.
“I am sure Sammi and myself might be willing to lend a hand… or a kick.”
