“Is this a stress thing?” On the other end of the phone, Trent was wondering what on earth Bear had gotten himself into. 'Revolutions' were not what the man was known for – he was known for being more reserved than most, so the change in heart was one that was a cause for concern.
Bear strolled down the road, smiling more than usual as he searched the store fronts for his destination. “Don't be ridiculous. This is important, Trent – something I care about. Which is why I'm doing what I'm doing.”
“The rally?”
“Yes, but also something just as important.” The life in Bear's voice carried the sound of a mad scientist, or someone who had just embarked on the next step of their ingenious plan. Trent groaned.
We find ourselves outside a store front. The sign at the top is cut off, but in the window we see a poster advertising custom business cards for a cheap price. Bear exits the store, greeting the camera with a wide smile. It's more whole than the one we last saw, invigorated by the upcoming rally and The Revolution's progress. Reaching into a paper bag, he pulls out a card and pamphlet, and hands both over to the cameraman.
“They're great, aren't they? I thought I'd prepare for the rally by getting a few brochures and cards made. Now we can hand these out to the people that come, and I'll make sure to give them to our opponents.”
“Speaking of opponents, I've been hearing Zach talk a lot about respect, and implying I haven't earned it yet due to my record here. He's also been slandering The Revolution, comparing our work to mere high school antics. But look at what The Revolution is doing: we're changing RSW, bringing media attention to the company and waking people up. We're no longer the 'worker bees', we're not playing into anyone's hands. If that doesn't earn us a bit of respect, then I don't know what does. Well...I suppose putting on a good match at Vendetta would earn us some respect, and can you imagine how much we'd gain if we won?”
“Zach, you say you have confidence in yourself, well so do I. Two losses won't shake that faith. Nor will you undermining me. I may be new to RSW, and I may have no victories as of yet, but let's not forget that I've got years of experience and a lot of technical talent to boot. I can understand why you're so dismissive of me though – you said it yourself, you don't know me or where I'm from. But trust me when I say I know a lot more about respect than a most people in this company. That's not meant to be 'shade', that's just the honest truth.”
“And Sammi, you're right – I shouldn't assume that one match means I have you figured out. But what it does mean is that I've got more of an understanding of what you can do. It's clear you have a lot of passion, and I admire that. It's what has driven me through my career all these years. But The Revolution's passion doesn't stop when we move past rallies and interviews. It continues into the ring, and that's what makes your analogy rather unfitting. Worker bees don't have a passion for what they do – they're driven by instinct, by a need. But Hanalei and I are driven by pure passion for change. We are the martyrs of RSW, the people who don't fit into this disturbed system that RSW is currently using. And we are breaking it down and reconstructing it, one piece at a time. Aren't you two just like us? Outcasts and traditionalists with a passion for wrestling that is being extinguished by the corruption at the top?”
A pause as Bear composes himself.
“Regardless of whether you align with us or not, don't believe that you've outmatched us with your passion. In terms of agility and speed, you may have us beaten, but our passion for what RSW could be will serve as the tipping point in this match. Oh, and our technical and submission skills will help as well, but you know...the passion is what's really giving us the advantage.”
Bear smiles and nods. “You're both invited to The Revolution.” He points to the cameraman. “You're coming, aren't you?” The camera bobs up and down, and Bear smiles. “Good, good. As Hanalei said: 'it's going to be amazing'.”
